Biography

Dr. Sokolow earned a pharmacy degree and a PhD in in Biomedical sciences from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. Dr Sokolow also earned the FPGEC (Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Examination Certificate) from the American Association Board of Pharmacy and is a registered intern pharmacist of the California Board of Pharmacy. In Belgium, Dr Sokolow worked as a community pharmacist and was also a consultant to the Belgian Ministry of Public Health where she provided drug monitoring and reporting services. Her graduate work included the production and characterization of a new mouse model lacking the sodium-calcium exchangers 3 (Ncx3-/-). Dr Sokolow is currenlty Assistant Professor at UCLA School of Nursing where she teaches Pharmacology and Therapeutics (N115) and Advanced Pharmacology (N225) to undergraduate and graduate in nursing students. Her research laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson's disease). Her laboratory has special expertise in AD and calcium signaling. Her team investigates the calcium hypothesis in synaptic amyloid-beta protein (Abeta) buildup and and neurodegeneration. Dr Sokolow also has a particular interest in AD pharmacogenomics.
