The Pradel Research Award is presented annually to recognize mid-career neuroscientists whose work is making major contributions to our understanding of the nervous system. The award is presented with a $50,000 research award to designate to an institution of the recipient’s choice to support neuroscience research.

Anne Churchland, University of California, Los Angeles, will receive the 2025 Pradel Research Award.

Churchland has made seminal contributions to our experimental and theoretical understanding of the neural computations underlying sensory guided behavior and decision making.

Churchland studies the neural circuits underlying decision making in order to better understand how our brains integrate information from our multiple senses, stored memories, and innate impulses. She has pioneered multi-faceted approaches to measure and manipulate neurons in cortical and subcortical areas while animals make decisions about sensory signals. To connect the neural responses with behavior, Churchland’s lab uses mathematical analyses aimed at understanding what information is represented at the level of neural populations, both at a given moment and over time.

Churchland has played a key role in promoting the scientific contributions of women in neuroscience. She is also a founding member of the International Brain Laboratory, encouraging collaboration and advancing innovative approaches to neuroscience.

Churchland will be honored in a ceremony on Sunday, April 27 during the National Academy of Sciences’ 162nd annual meeting.
