Some Infinities are Bigger than Other Infinities
Calvin Osborne (Graduate Student, UCLA)
In The Fault in Our Stars, Hazel says that ?some infinities are bigger than other infinities;? however, what does this really mean? In this talk, we will discuss a classic thought experiment, Hilbert’s Hotel, and what it means for infinities to be ?of the same size.? In conclusion, we will show that there are two infinites of a different size (and proving Hazel right!).
Meteorites: Rocks from Space Carrying Secrets of Our Solar System
Peng Ni (Professor, UCLA)
Meteorites are more than rocks from space. They are ancient fragments of asteroids, planets, and other bodies that preserve a record of how our Solar System formed and changed over billions of years. Join me to see real meteorite specimens and discover how they reveal clues about Solar System formation, planetary differentiation, and impact hazards.
