Gut feelings: The secrets of the human gut microbiome

Aina Martinez (Graduate Student, UCLA)
The human gut microbiome is a fascinating community of hundreds of species that live in ourguts. In the last few decades, scientists have come to understand that the bacteria in our guts play essential roles for the health of their hosts (us!) and impact our well being from the moment we are born. In this talk, you will discover where our microbiomes come from, what scientists have learned about them in the last ten years, and how investigators today study the little bugs in your gut.

A tale of learning and decisions

Kathia Ramirez (Postdoctoral Researcher, UCLA)
Have you ever noticed how certain images instantly make you crave specific types of food? Or how the memory of a bad meal can make you pass on dinner with friends? In this talk, we’ll dive into how a key signal in the brain helps you learn, adapt and make decisions every day.
