Jamie D. Feusner joined the faculty in the department of psychiatry in July of 2006. Dr. Feusner graduated with honors from UC San Diego with a major in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He obtained his medical degree and completed his psychiatry residency training at UCLA. He then completed a clinical psychopharmacology fellowship followed by an NIMH T32 psychobiology research fellowship where he received training in neuroimaging. Dr. Feusner’s research program seeks to understand phenotypes of perceptual and emotional processing across conditions involving body image and obsessions/compulsions, including body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), eating disorders, OCD, and gender dysphoria. Dr. Feusner published the first functional neuroimaging studies in BDD, and the first studies to directly compare the neurobiology of BDD to anorexia nervosa. He has also conducted research in OCD investigating neurometabolites and brain connectivity, including predictors of acute and long-term treatment response in OCD. He is currently funded by the NIH to study anorexia nervosa, BDD, and gender dysphoria. His research utilizes functional (fMRI and EEG) and structural neuroimaging (sMRI and DTI), as well as psychophysical testing, to understand the brain. An additional area of work is in novel applications for mobile assessment of affective, interoceptive, and perceptual distortions of appearance across platforms (smartphones, tablets, computers) for research and clinical purposes. Dr. Feusner’s clinical work includes Directorship of the UCLA Adult OCD Intensive Treatment program. He teaches cognitive-behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy, and is a research supervisor for postdoctoral fellows, Neuroscience Interdepartmental Program PhD students, and undergraduates. Dr. Feusner is also a faculty advisor for the Brain Research Institute Neuroimaging Affinity Group.
