As a neurosurgeon who specializes in neuromotor disorders, I perform surgeries to decompress and stabilize the spinal column for spinal pathologies. After surgery, in the clinic, I assess these patients and prescribe rehabilitation therapies in our Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Center. These clinical duties give me opportunities to understand the neuromotor disease process and allow me to contemplate and formulate treatment strategies. Important to this research endeavor, I conduct clinical research through this avenue and the operating room. In the laboratory, I utilize transgenic mice and rodent models of neuromotor disorders such as spinal cord injury and stroke to investigate therapeutic interventions. My current duties share the common theme of attempting to understand spinal cord circuits and finding effective treatment strategies for neuromotor diseases.
